- Date & time 9a – 1p, 11/08/2016
- Description Join Us on Election Day! You will be home in time to vote! The Stonington Historical Society will take a Field Trip to the Yale University Art Gallery to see the current exhibition on early Rhode Island furniture. This groundbreaking exhibition presents a comprehensive survey of Rhode Island furniture from the Colonial and early Federal periods, including elaborately carved chairs, high chests, bureau tables, and clocks. Drawing together more than 130 exceptional objects from museums, historical societies, and private collections, the show highlights major aesthetic innovations developed in the region. In addition to iconic, stylish pieces from important centers of production like Providence and Newport, the exhibition showcases simpler examples made in smaller towns and for export. Curator Patricia Kane will offer a guided tour to members of the Society at 10 am on Tuesday, November 8. We plan to carpool from the Captain Nathaniel Palmer House at 9 am OR you can meet us in New Haven at 10 am. Just be sure to let us know that you are coming at 860-535-8445 x10 or director@stoningtonhistory.org Membership at the Yale Art Gallery is free and includes special parking rates, special events, and book store discounts.
