FamilySearch
The Family History Library of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sponsors this Internet genealogy service. Search for ancestors in the Library's Ancestral File, Pedigree Resource File, and International Genealogical Index or browse Family History Web Sites by topic (for example, Places > Connecticut or Migration > Emigration and Immigration). The Research Guidance section serves as a virtual research assistant to help you locate records from the place your ancestor lived (for example, Connecticut, United States).

Click "Learning Center" to browse selected Ancestry Magazine articles and columns on researching family history. The site also features several search options; access to most Ancestry.com records databases, however, requires a subscription.

National Archives and Records Administration: The Genealogy Page
Genealogists are the largest group of NARA users. See Start Your Genealogical Research to find out how to access Federal records (census records, 1790-1920; military service and pension records, 1776-1900; immigration records, 1820-1957; naturalization records, etc.) Read articles of interest to genealogists from the National Archive's quarterly journal, Prologue.

The NGS offers home study and online courses for beginners (tution is charged). Research aids and forms are available from the NGS Bookstore. The site also offers a Links list of genealogy sites.

Access the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS). Enter a domestic name to call up a variety of mapping services.

The Connecticut Historical Society
A diverse site presenting many online resources for CHS collections, exhibitions, and history projects. The CHS Online Exhibits features holdings from the Art and Artifact, Graphics, and Library Collections.

Connecticut History Online
A searchable image database of prints, photographs, and drawings from 1800 to 1950. CHO is a collaboration between the Connecticut Historical Society, Thomas J. Dodd Research Center at the University of Connecticut, and Mystic Seaport Museum.

Colonial Connecticut Records
All 15 volumes of The Public Records of the Colony of Connecticut, from April 1636 to October 1776 (Hartford: Brown & Parsons. 1850-1890) are now online.
